Really enjoying this. There were certainly some remarkable men and women at this time period. My favorite so far, is Orson Hyde. This is helping muchly with my study of the Doctrine and Covenants for our Gospel Doctrine lesson.
I think the entire manual should be re-written around these essays. Why do we never really get to learn about these men in-depth? It is so bizzare, really. They are just incredible examples of righteous living, showing off such high moral principles and such loyalty to the prophet. Yet, in our course of Gospel Doctrine we rarely touch on them and if so just briefly. I just don't get it.
I loved the book and found it inspiring as well as informative. I wish there were more like it.
